🔔 AI Stocks Close — Wednesday, October 28, 2026 at 2:15 PM

Closes: SPX 7,743.98 (+0.28%) · NDX 29,700.52 (+0.17%) · DJI 52,475.10 (+0.19%)
Day narrative: A coiled-spring session — indexes drifted in a narrow green band all day because nobody wanted to commit ahead of a Fed decision and the two biggest earnings reports of the quarter. The Fed held at 3.75%–4.00% in a 10-2 vote with both dissents wanting a hike, and the real fireworks waited until the bell rang.

Sectors: Best Technology (+0.80%) · Worst Communication Services (-0.42%)

Movers:
• ORCL +10.7% — investor day blowout: $225B FY30 revenue target, 40%+ margins, and a hard $20B cap on future fundraising that defused the debt worry
• MU +5.9% — SK Hynix posted a 632% profit jump and signaled memory tightness through 2030; Micron rode it back toward $1,000
• ARM +4.1% — Rene Haas talking up confidence in the $2B AI chip sales target
• AMD +3.2% — follow-through on the $1B Meta equity stake and Helios racks running in Meta's fleet
• AVGO +2.8% — DA Davidson upgrade to Buy, plus that $63B Blackstone-backed financing vehicle for AI infrastructure
• NVDA -1.2% — gave back a little after three strong sessions; no company-specific news
• NET -2.8% — profit-taking after the cybersecurity-driven pop

After-Hours / Earnings:
• MSFT reported a beat, +4.3% AH — EPS $4.89 vs $4.72, revenue $92.28B vs $90.74B, Microsoft Cloud $63.9B ahead of estimates. The AI capex is showing up in the top line.
• GOOGL reported a miss, -7.7% AH — revenue $127.58B just shy of $127.9B and EPS $2.12 against roughly $3.01 expected. Google Cloud beat big at $30.71B, but AI spending has pushed free cash flow negative and the market punished it.
• NOW reported mixed, -13% AH — revenue up 21% to $4.11B edged past, EPS $1.00 missed by about two cents. At that multiple, two cents costs you a seventh of the company.
• Software sympathy selling: CRM -5.0% AH, CRWD -4.0% AH, ADBE -2.7% AH

Macro:
• Fed held 3.75%–4.00%, 10-2. Cleveland's Beth Hammack and Governor Lisa Cook dissented in favor of a hike — hawkish dissents, which is the unusual part
• Chair Kevin Warsh announced the Fed will drop one 2027 meeting, dedicating it purely to strategy with no funds-rate vote
• Bond traders now price roughly 85% odds of a quarter-point increase at the December 9 meeting
• IPO watch: Anthropic filed final paperwork under ticker ANT, seeking up to $100B at a valuation approaching $2T, with a debut possible as soon as November 16. OpenAI is staying private into next year, reportedly raising another $30B at $1.25T

Tomorrow: Amazon headlines Thursday's after-the-bell slate with Q3 — AWS capacity reportedly booked out through most of next year, so the backlog commentary matters more than the print. Samsung's results are the next barometer for the memory trade that's carrying Micron. Weekly jobless claims in the morning, and the full digestion of tonight's Microsoft-versus-Alphabet split is what sets the tone at the open.
