🔔 AI Stocks Close — Monday, October 19, 2026 at 2:15 PM

Closes: SPX 7,690.73 (+0.41%) · NDX/Nasdaq Comp 26,430.89 (+1.11%) · DJI 51,966.03 (-0.07%)
Day narrative: Dip buyers showed up for the AI trade after last week's drubbing — the Nasdaq's 4.5% weekly wipeout got a down payment back, led by semis and megacap consumer tech. The Dow sat it out, pinned by another leg lower in bank stocks, so this was a narrow, tech-only rebound rather than a broad all-clear.

Sectors: Best Consumer Discretionary (XLY +1.77%) and Technology (XLK +1.32%) · Worst Energy (XLE -0.64%) and Consumer Staples (XLP -0.47%)

Movers:
• AMZN +5.01% — Morgan Stanley named it a top pick; AWS capacity narrative back in favor
• PLTR +4.37% — snapped a five-session losing streak as AI software got re-bid
• TSLA +3.79% — positioning ahead of Wednesday's Q3 print
• MU +2.97% — memory supercycle bid; DRAM/HBM pricing still the loudest story in chips
• SNOW +2.75% / MDB +3.29% — AI-data infrastructure names caught the rebound
• Banks — KBW Bank Index extended its longest losing streak since summer 2008, capping the Dow

After-hours / Earnings:
• Quiet tape. Steel Dynamics, Crown Holdings, AGNC and BOKF reported after the bell with no megacap-level reaction; index futures were flat within pennies and the AH leaderboard was all microcaps.
• Watch item: Anthropic committed 5% of its shares to a public benefit fund as it preps a potential Nasdaq listing — Kalshi has an IPO announcement above 75% for 2026. Still private. OpenAI's Sam Altman has ruled out a 2026 offering.

Tomorrow: GM reports premarket (~6:30 a.m. ET, call at 8:30), Netflix after the close with options pricing a roughly 9% move. RTX, GE, Capital One, Intuitive Surgical and Chubb also on deck. Housing starts and building permits at 8:30 a.m. ET. Then Tesla and Meta Wednesday — 200-plus companies report this week.
