Closes: SPX 7,686 (-0.75%) · NDX 30,276.81 (-1.08%) · DJI 51,481 (-0.67%)
Day narrative: Geopolitics wrote the script — Trump waved off an Iran truce proposal, crude spiked toward $110 Brent, and the 10-year yield tore up to 5.26%, its highest since 2007. Stocks sagged all morning, clawed back some of it midday on sanctions-relief chatter, then faded again into the bell with tech taking the worst of it.

Sectors: Best Energy (+1.11%) · Worst Basic Materials (-1.80%), with consumer cyclicals and communication services close behind

Movers:
• MDB -18.46% — CEO CJ Desai bolted for Meta after less than a year; Dev Ittycheria back as interim, guidance reaffirmed, stock wrecked anyway
• ARM -8.70% — SoftBank's margin loan against its Arm stake stepped up to $25B, CFO share sales disclosed, valuation questions piling on
• NVDA +1.68% — board approved another $150B of buyback, lifting total authorization to $235B, the largest ever by a U.S. company
• TSLA -3.96% — high-multiple growth names bore the brunt of the yield surge
• AMD -3.61% — swept up in the AI-safety chatter that hit the chip complex
• CRWD +2.82% / NET +1.53% — cyber and edge names caught a defensive bid while the rest of software sold off

After-hours / Earnings:
Quiet tape. No notable AH earnings — AMD ticked up 0.27%, IBM +0.14%, SOUN +0.17%, everything else within a whisker of the close. MU sat at $1,052.00 (-0.19% AH) ahead of Wednesday's fiscal Q4 print.

• AI/IPO watch: Anthropic has confidentially filed a draft S-1 and is pointed at a Nasdaq listing as soon as October, reportedly up to $2T. OpenAI's rumored round would value it near $1.2T, but Altman has ruled out a 2026 float — 2027 looks likelier. Neither is tradable yet.

Tomorrow: Conference Board Consumer Confidence at 10am ET (90.0 expected vs 89.4), JOLTS job openings for August alongside it, plus Case-Shiller and FHFA home prices at 9am and Dallas Fed services at 10:30. Earnings are thin — Carnival and CarMax before the bell, AAR and Concentrix after. The one to watch on the watchlist: MongoDB's Investor Day at Nasdaq MarketSite, 11am to 3:15pm ET, now a very different event than it was on Friday.
