🔔 AI Stocks Close — Wednesday, September 9, 2026 at 2:15 PM

Closes: SPX 7,641 (-0.48%) · NDX 29,291 (-0.29%) · DJI 52,436 (-0.67%)
Day narrative: Crude punching through $100 on the Brent contract did the damage — the first triple-digit print since July, and it dragged the whole risk complex lower even as a handful of AI names ripped higher. Breadth was ugly, the Dow was the worst of the majors, but Meta and Cloudflare kept the Nasdaq from joining the rout.

Sectors: Best Energy (the day's clear leader, with Utilities the only other group meaningfully green) · Worst Consumer Cyclicals, with Industrials right behind

Movers:
• NET +10.5% — Cloudflare unveiled Vulnerability Discovery and Remediation, an AI security platform built on OpenAI's GPT-5.6 Cyber model; options flow turned aggressively bullish
• META +6.5% — Muse, its agentic AI assistant that books travel and sends email, drew price-target hikes from Mizuho ($750) and KeyBanc ($780)
• IBM +3.4% and AMD +3.0% — quantum error-correction work running in real time on AMD FPGAs lifted both
• CHWY -11% — free cash flow fell 15.5% on SmartPak and Modern Animal integration costs, swamping a raised full-year outlook
• IONQ -5.8% — quantum pure-plays sold off even as IBM's news went the other way
• GOOGL -2.3% — Meta's Muse launch was framed squarely as a shot at Search

After-hours / Earnings:
• CHYM +9.6% AH — buying Stride Bank for $590M cash and raising full-year revenue guidance
• TTAN -21.2% AH — beat on the quarter, but executive turnover and mixed signals overwhelmed it
• MIND -15.6% AH — sizable revenue miss
(No watchlist names reported tonight)

Macro:
• Brent crude cleared $100 after the U.S. struck five Iranian tankers Tuesday; Goldman flagged $120 if the conflict widens
• 10-year yield hovering near 4.8%, close to a two-decade high — that's what's compressing multiples, not the tape itself
• CME FedWatch has roughly 60% odds of a 25bp Fed hike at next week's FOMC. Not a cut. A hike
• Apple held its product event today — John Ternus's first as CEO; shares essentially flat on it

IPO watch: Anthropic still tracking toward a late-September/October listing at a reported ~$2T target after more than $130B raised privately. OpenAI is leaning 2027, and turned up today as the engine behind Cloudflare's new security stack.

Tomorrow: Oracle Q1 FY27 and Adobe both report after the close — options are pricing an ~11.7% move in ORCL, and with a $638B backlog it's the cleanest read on AI infrastructure spend anyone gets this quarter. Before the bell: August PPI and initial jobless claims at 8:30 ET. CPI lands Friday.
