Reporting this week says Anthropic wants to begin formal IPO marketing as early as the week of November 9 and trade before November 26, with prospective investors weighing a $1.8 trillion to $2 trillion valuation. Underwriters named are Morgan Stanley, Goldman Sachs and JPMorgan, against a confidential S-1 filed back on June 1. Select institutional investors have been invited to an October 14 meeting at Anthropic's San Francisco headquarters.

Microsoft announced a Copilot overhaul Friday built on three pillars: Home, which merges Chat and Cowork; Code, which generates apps, dashboards and software from natural language; and Autopilot, an evolution of Scout that acts as a digital coworker with its own identity and configurable permissions. Word, Excel and PowerPoint get embedded directly inside Copilot, plus managed hosting for AI-generated apps. Microsoft also added tooling so companies can actually see what their AI spend is.

Drawing on 165 trillion daily security signals, Microsoft's 2026 report concludes the median time from vulnerability discovery to weaponization has fallen below 24 hours, while enterprise remediation still takes 30 to 60 days. Nation-state crews from China, Russia and North Korea are using AI for vulnerability research, malware generation and social engineering. Phishing accounted for 23 percent of investigated breaches.

Per the Wall Street Journal, OpenAI dismissed Jasmine Wang, Tomek Korbak and Mikita Balesni after an internal review found they mishandled sensitive information, some of it concerning OpenAI's infrastructure architecture, by sharing it with an outside AI safety group. Korbak had served as OpenAI's technical contact for METR and Redwood Research. OpenAI says the individuals violated policies on accessing and handling sensitive company information.

Apple said Thursday it will add new controls around Full Disk Access, arguing some developers use the permission in ways that expose files, mail, messages and browsing history without users fully understanding it, and that the risk grows as AI agents become more autonomous. Future access will require very explicit user action. No version number or ship date was given, and no app was named.

TSMC is exploring a role helping operate Elon Musk's Terafab fabs in Texas, with one scenario making Terafab the anchor customer for a new multibillion-dollar TSMC campus, possibly near Dallas. Each facility could run north of $20 billion and reportedly hinges on an extension of the 35 percent US advanced-manufacturing tax credit. Intel joined Terafab back in April, so a TSMC pivot would be a notable shift.

A preregistered study of 1,100 tracked Google users from Penn and Northeastern found forced AI Mode dropped click-through rate by 18.8 percentage points and daily search sessions by nearly one. It also lowered trust, usefulness and perceived relevance, with the sharpest effects among heavy Google users. Those users were likelier to go try Bing, DuckDuckGo or Yahoo.
