Apple's M6 is its first 2nm chip, with a 12-core CPU, GPU Neural Accelerators, and a dual 16-core Neural Engine claiming up to 2x the prior AI performance. The M5 Ultra is a quad-die UltraFusion monster — 36-core CPU, 80-core GPU, 1.2TB/s of memory bandwidth, up to 512GB unified memory, and up to 4.5x the peak GPU AI compute of M3 Ultra. That memory ceiling is the headline for anyone running big models locally.
The new Mac Studio ships with M5 Max (18-core CPU, 40-core GPU, 128GB) or M5 Ultra (36-core CPU, 80-core GPU, 512GB), with Apple claiming up to 4.3x the AI compute of M3 Ultra. Alibaba's Qwen team has a ModelScope page live for Qwen3.8-Flash-Next, a multimodal mixture-of-experts model built on the next-gen Qwen4 architecture, landing August 26. The team says they're shipping the architectural advances early so the community can prepare for the full Qwen4 family, with standard and FP8 quantized artifacts planned. An attacker got into France's DGFiP through a compromised VPN account in late June, and nobody noticed until the data went up for sale on August 12. Roughly 678,000 taxpayers were hit directly, plus over two million more via cadastral property records — names, income, withholding rates, addresses, dependents.
