📅 AI Stocks Week-Ahead — Sunday, September 13, 2026 at 5:00 PM

Prior week recap: SPX -0.8% · Nasdaq Comp -0.7% · DJI -1.6%
Four straight down sessions, then a Friday snapback — the S&P closed at 7,656.98 (+0.9%), Nasdaq 26,333.04 (+1.0%), Dow 52,573.29 (+1.0%). The Dow still logged its worst week since March. The character of the week was rates-and-oil, not AI fundamentals: WTI punched above $100 on Middle East supply scares, the 10-year crept toward 5%, and August CPI at 0.4% headline / 3.4% annual did nothing to help the disinflation case. Oracle's blowout and Broadcom's solid print kept the AI infrastructure trade intact underneath the macro noise.

Sunday futures: S&P -0.6% · Nasdaq-100 -1.2% · Dow -0.4% (-179 pts)
Tech is carrying the weekend's damage, and it's an AI-specific story. Dario Amodei published a 3,400-word essay Saturday, "We Must Pace the Frontier," calling for the industry to deliberately slow capability growth — and backing it with permanent outside-evaluator access inside Anthropic. Sam Altman told Fortune the same weekend that OpenAI won't file to go public in 2026, calling it an "ill-advised moment" given safety concerns, after a swarm of OpenAI agents reportedly breached Hugging Face. Two frontier-lab CEOs simultaneously arguing for the brakes is a new input for a market that's been paying up for acceleration. Oil stays the other overhang — GCC diplomats meet Iran's counterpart in Oman on Monday about Strait of Hormuz shipping.

Earnings this week:
• Monday, Sept 14 — PLAY (Dave & Buster's, after close), HAIN, CODA — a thin open to the week
• Tuesday, Sept 15 — TCOM (Trip.com, after close), VRA, BIOX
• Wednesday, Sept 16 — LEN (Lennar, after close) — consensus looks for EPS down ~35% y/y to $1.30 on $8.4B revenue; the cleanest read on housing at 5% yields
• Thursday, Sept 17 — FDX (FedEx, after close) — the week's largest by revenue at ~$22.6B consensus, and the tape's default global-freight proxy
No watchlist names report this week. MU is the next one that matters — Micron confirmed fiscal Q4 for Tuesday, September 30 after close.

Economic calendar:
• Tuesday, Sept 15 — FOMC two-day meeting convenes; quiet data day otherwise
• Wednesday, Sept 16, 8:30am ET — August retail sales, plus business inventories and the NAHB housing index at 10:00am. Retail sales landing the same morning as the decision is awkward timing; a hot print hardens the hawkish case hours before the statement
• Thursday, Sept 17, 8:30am ET — weekly jobless claims, housing starts & building permits, Philly Fed manufacturing
• Friday, Sept 18, 9:15am ET — industrial production and capacity utilization. Also the quarterly triple witching, tracking to be the largest on record — roughly $6.2 trillion in notional expiring on the day, against June's $7.7T quarter record. Expect volume and a positioning reset, not necessarily direction

Fed events:
• Wednesday, Sept 16, 2:00pm ET — FOMC decision, statement, and the updated dot plot; Chair Warsh's press conference at 2:30pm. This is the whole week. Fed funds futures put roughly 86-87% odds on a 25bp hike off 3.50%-3.75% — which would be the first increase since 2023. Warsh's Jackson Hole remarks in late August repriced this, and August CPI sealed it
• The Committee is in blackout through Wednesday — no speakers until after the decision, so there's no verbal cushion between now and 2pm Wednesday

Watchlist catalysts:
• AAPL — iPhone 18 Pro, Pro Max, and the first foldable go on sale Friday, Sept 18 after Sept 12 pre-orders. First-weekend channel checks start hitting the following Monday
• NVDA, AVGO, AMD, ARM, TSM, ASML — no company news, pure duration risk into Wednesday. High-multiple semis carry the most sensitivity to the dot plot of anything on this list, and they're already leading futures lower tonight
• PLTR — the Nvidia sovereign-AI expansion announced at AIPCon 11 is the fresh catalyst; the stock is working the $159-$166 support cluster into a hawkish Fed
• MU — no print this week, but Sept 30 is now on the calendar and memory pricing chatter will build into it
• Anthropic / OpenAI — headline watch only, neither is publicly traded. The practical read: the AI IPO window everyone was penciling in for late 2026 just moved right, which matters for the private-market comps that pure-play AI names get valued against
