📅 AI Stocks Week-Ahead — Sunday, September 6, 2026 at 5:00 PM

Prior week recap: SPX +0.1% · NDX +0.4% · DJI -0.3%
A quiet four days undone by Friday. August payrolls came in at 162K against a 55K consensus, yields jumped, and rate-hike odds for the September 15–16 FOMC snapped to roughly 60% on FedWatch — so the S&P finished at 7,718.60, Nasdaq at 26,506.99, Dow at 53,414.25, all lower on the day. Broadcom's Tuesday night print was the week's real AI event: revenue up 86% to $29.6B, AI semis up 221% to $16.7B, a $58B FY26 AI target with $115B and $230B sketched for FY27/FY28 — and the stock still fell 3% after hours because Q4 guidance landed just under the $35.03B whisper. That's the tell for the whole tape right now: the AI numbers are enormous, and the bar is higher than the numbers.

Sunday futures: Globex reopens at 6:00 p.m. ET tonight; last settle put ES near 7,700, and the early lean is modestly higher (call that a guess until the session actually prints). Monday, September 7 is Labor Day — cash equity and bond markets are closed, futures trade an abbreviated session, and the first real open is Tuesday, September 8. Weekend flow was AI-heavy rather than macro-heavy: OpenAI shipped Astra with AGI-framed marketing and $10/$50 per-million token pricing, Anthropic released Fable 5.1 plus a gated Mythos 5.1 with a 1M-token window and a 75% cut to cache-read pricing, a federal judge struck down the Pentagon's national-security supply-chain designation of Anthropic, and Nscale is reportedly raising up to $3.5B pre-IPO with roughly $2B from Nvidia on the back of that $45B Anthropic compute deal from August 26. Separately, OpenAI, Google, Anthropic and 100-plus signatories put out an open letter on self-directed AI cyberattacks after an agent-coordination experiment went sideways — headline risk, not a Tuesday-open risk.

Earnings this week:
• Thursday, September 10 — ORCL (Q1 FY27, after the close; consensus ~$19.13B revenue, $1.30 EPS — the RPO and AI-backlog line is the whole story), ADBE (Q3, after the close — the market's cleanest read on whether generative AI is a monetization engine or a margin tax for incumbent software)
• Thursday, September 10 — TSM August monthly revenue (not earnings, but the highest-frequency AI-demand datapoint on the calendar)
• Light week otherwise: Kroger and a handful of small caps. MU does not report until Wednesday, September 30. AVGO already cleared on September 2.

Economic calendar:
• Monday, September 7 — Labor Day: markets closed
• Tuesday, September 8 — first session of the week; positioning day ahead of the inflation pair
• Thursday, September 10 — August PPI, 8:30 a.m. ET, plus weekly jobless claims: the input-cost read that front-runs Friday
• Friday, September 11 — August CPI, 8:30 a.m. ET: consensus ~0.4% headline (energy-led) against ~0.2% core. This is the last inflation print before the Fed decides on September 16. Also Friday: University of Michigan preliminary sentiment and the August federal budget

Fed events:
• Blackout — the pre-FOMC quiet period began Saturday, September 5 and runs through Thursday, September 17. No speakers, no minutes, no walk-back. Chair Warsh's hawkish Jackson Hole debut on August 28 pushed hike odds from about one-in-three to better than even, and he has explicitly refused to give forward guidance. That means CPI trades without a Fed voice to interpret it — the whole reaction function is the market's own.

Watchlist catalysts:
• ORCL — Thursday, September 10 after the close. The single biggest AI-capex signal of the week
• ADBE — Thursday, September 10 after the close. AI-monetization referendum for legacy software
• AAPL — Wednesday, September 9, 10 a.m. PT / 1 p.m. ET "Surprise and Shine" at Apple Park. iPhone 18 Pro, 18 Pro Max, and the foldable iPhone Ultra. First keynote for CEO John Ternus, who took over September 1
• TSM — August monthly revenue, roughly Thursday, September 10
• NVDA — no earnings, but Nscale/Anthropic financing headlines and Huang's ~$1T U.S. AI infrastructure framing keep it the sentiment proxy into CPI
• AVGO — post-print drift. Whether the $115B FY27 AI number gets faded or bought is a read-through for the whole custom-silicon complex
• TSLA — fell more than 6% Friday on a Cybercab launch that left analysts with more questions than answers. Watch for follow-through and analyst revisions Tuesday
• PLTR, SOUN, IONQ, BBAI, SMCI, ARM — no company catalysts; these are the highest-duration names on the list and the most rate-sensitive into Thursday and Friday
