📅 AI Stocks Week-Ahead — Sunday, October 4, 2026 at 5:00 PM
Prior week recap: SPX -0.3% · NDX +0.5% · DJI -1.3%
A split tape: the Nasdaq Composite closed at a record 27,190.86 Friday — its sixth straight week of outperformance — while the Dow gave back 1.3% and the median S&P 500 stock actually fell about 0.9%. Friday's soft September jobs report sparked a broad relief rally (SPX +0.73% to 7,722.72, NVDA touching an all-time high at $237.88 intraday), but breadth stayed brutally narrow, with roughly 28 names accounting for the index's entire year-to-date return.
Sunday futures: S&P +0.1% · Nasdaq +0.1% · Dow +0.1% (~53 pts)
Futures are essentially flat as the long end of the curve keeps nagging — 30-year Treasuries pushed to 5.63%, the highest since 2002. Weekend headlines were AI-policy heavy: Treasury Secretary Bessent told Axios on Saturday, October 3 that AI-slowdown calls from Anthropic's Amodei, OpenAI's Altman and xAI's Musk amount to "alarmism without solutions." Anthropic's IPO prospectus also drew scrutiny, disclosing roughly $518B in compute and infrastructure obligations against about $4.6B of 2025 revenue — with Broadcom extending up to $42B to lease its own chips. OpenAI and Synopsys announced GPT-Synopsys, a chip-design model.
Earnings this week:
• Monday, October 6 — Penguin Solutions (PENG), the week's early AI-adjacent attention magnet
• Tuesday, October 6 — Constellation Brands (STZ), after the close (consensus ~$2.54B revenue, $3.57 EPS)
• Wednesday, October 7 — Applied Digital (APLD), after the close — the cleanest AI-datacenter read of the week
• Thursday, October 8 — PepsiCo (PEP), before the open
• Friday, October 9 — Delta Air Lines (DAL) before the open; Levi Strauss (LEVI)
Note: no watchlist names report this week. Q3 season proper doesn't start until the banks the following week.
Economic calendar:
• Monday, October 5 — S&P Global Services PMI and ISM Services, 10:00 AM ET (consensus 55.7 vs 55.4 prior): the first read on whether Friday's soft labor print is a one-off or a trend
• Tuesday, October 6 — U.S. trade balance
• Wednesday, October 7 — consumer credit, alongside the FOMC minutes
• Thursday, October 8 — weekly jobless claims and monthly wholesale trade
• Friday, October 9 — University of Michigan preliminary consumer sentiment (forecast 54.1 vs 51.7)
Worth flagging what's not here: September CPI lands Wednesday, October 14 and PPI Thursday, October 15 — both next week, not this one.
Fed events:
• Wednesday, October 7 — September FOMC minutes, 2:00 PM ET: the headline event of the week. Markets want the internal debate over the real fed-funds rate and how divided the committee was after the soft labor data
• Tuesday, October 6 — Williams and Bowman speak
• Wednesday, October 7 — Logan and Williams speak
• Thursday, October 8 — Musalem speaks, alongside the BoE's Bailey
• Friday, October 9 — Collins speaks
Watchlist catalysts:
• TSM — September monthly revenue Thursday, October 8 (1:30 PM Taipei). August ran +53.3% year over year; this is the week's single best real-time AI-demand datapoint
• NVDA, AVGO, AMD, ASML — all trade off that TSM print. NVDA also carries fresh momentum: a $150B buyback increase leaving $235B to execute through fiscal 2028, plus Morgan Stanley reinstating it as top semiconductor pick with a $300 target
• AVGO — the reported $42B Anthropic lending facility, with a bank and Blackstone syndicate assembling $60B behind it, is now a balance-sheet story, not just a chip story
• MU — no catalyst, but the setup matters: Q4 revenue of $54.23B (+379% y/y) and EPS of $33.42 both beat by better than 7%, with over 75% of fiscal 2027 shipments already locked via supply agreements. The follow-through tells you whether the memory bid is durable
• PLTR, SOUN, IONQ, BBAI, SNOW, MDB, NET, CRWD — no company-specific events, but these are the highest-duration names on the list. With the 30-year at two-decade highs, they'll move more on Wednesday's minutes than on anything they do themselves
• Anthropic / OpenAI — neither is publicly traded. News-flow only: Anthropic's IPO prospectus is live and drawing hard questions on the compute-obligation gap, and it's warning a Pentagon ban could cost it billions
