📅 AI Stocks Week-Ahead — Sunday, October 18, 2026 at 5:00 PM

Prior week recap: SPX -1.95% · NDX -5.49% · DJI +0.67%
Last week was a rotation out of the AI trade, not a broad risk-off — the Dow actually gained while the Nasdaq Composite shed 4.48% and snapped a four-week win streak. The character of it matters: the market stopped asking how much AI capex is coming and started asking who's financing it, with CoreWeave's leveraged balance sheet (-24% on the week) as the spark. The Philadelphia Semiconductor Index fell eight straight sessions, its longest losing streak since 2008.

Sunday futures: S&P +0.2% · Nasdaq +0.4% · Dow +0.2% (~110 pts)
Modest dip-buying into Monday's open. Supportive: stable oil early Sunday and hopes of Iran de-escalation, though UK Maritime Trade Operations logged at least 14 vessel attacks near Hormuz between October 8–14, the highest weekly count of the conflict. Offsetting: crypto and AI-linked perps sold off hard in weekend trading on October 17–18 before partially recovering, triggering forced liquidations and a round of "Black Monday" chatter — worth noting, but futures aren't confirming it. Anthropic said it will commit 5% of its shares to a new Anthropic Public Benefit Fund (~$48B), and Microsoft exited its Nscale arrangement.

Earnings this week:
• Tuesday, October 20 — NFLX (after the close), General Motors. Some calendars also list a SpaceX report Tuesday afternoon — treat that one as unconfirmed.
• Wednesday, October 21 (after the close) — META (EPS ~$6.35–6.58, rev ~$64B, call 4:30 PM ET), TSLA (EPS ~$0.21–0.45, rev ~$28B), IBM (EPS ~$2.87–2.90, rev ~$17B), TXN (EPS ~$2.39), LRCX (EPS ~$2.17, rev ~$8.1B), SAP
• Thursday, October 22 — Intuitive Surgical, Bloom Energy, Honeywell
• Roughly 70 S&P 500 names report, with Wednesday as the clear pressure point. Already behind us: ASML reported October 14, TSM on October 15.
• Not this week but shaping positioning: MSFT and GOOGL on October 28, AMZN on October 29, AAPL on November 2, NVDA on November 17.

Economic calendar:
• Monday, October 19 — China Q3 GDP (est. 4.4% y/y vs. 4.3%) and Canadian CPI (est. 3.2% vs. 3.0%). China's print is the demand read for the semi complex.
• Tuesday, October 20 — China LPR, German PPI, UK unemployment, EU/German ZEW, U.S. ADP weekly employment change, September building permits
• Wednesday, October 21 — Japan trade balance, UK September CPI, NZ Q3 CPI
• Thursday, October 22 — weekly jobless claims (week ending October 17), Conference Board Leading Economic Index (September), Kansas City Fed manufacturing survey (October)
• Friday, October 23 — S&P Global flash manufacturing and services PMIs (October), revised University of Michigan consumer sentiment (October)
• The important point: there's no major U.S. CPI or payrolls release this week. Those landed earlier in October. That leaves earnings as the dominant price driver.

Fed events:
• Saturday, October 17 — the Fed's blackout period began. No policy commentary from officials on any trading day this week.
• October 27–28 — FOMC meeting. The quiet period means positioning happens without official guidance; flash PMIs on Friday, October 23 become the last macro input before the decision.

Watchlist catalysts:
• META — reports Wednesday, October 21 after the close. First quarter since the Muse AI agent launch; capex guidance is the single most important AI-spend datapoint of the week.
• TSLA — reports Wednesday, October 21 after the close. Low EPS bar (~$0.21–0.45), so the story is margins and the EV demand read.
• IBM — reports Wednesday, October 21 after the close. Software and consulting mix is the enterprise-AI monetization check.
• NVDA — GTC Berlin runs October 20–22, with Jensen Huang's keynote Wednesday, October 21 at 11:00 CEST, focused on physical AI, robotics, and European sovereign AI. Headline risk and headline opportunity, with no earnings until November 17.
• MU, AVGO, AMD, TSM, ASML, SMCI, ARM — no earnings this week, so these trade purely on semi sentiment after an eight-day SOX losing streak. TXN and LRCX on Wednesday are the read-through.
• PLTR, SOUN, IONQ, BBAI, NET, CRWD, SNOW, MDB — no scheduled catalysts; high-beta AI names remain the leveraged expression of last week's financing anxiety.
• Anthropic (not yet public) — plans to file publicly with the SEC on October 26, roadshow November 9, pricing the week after, targeting up to $100B raised at a ~$2T valuation. Reportedly a $16.8B quarter with ~50% growth and cash-flow positive, though some investors are talking ~$1.5T instead of $2T. Also: the FTC has sent 50-plus-page civil investigative demands to both Anthropic and OpenAI over recent AI safety incidents. Regulatory headline risk for the whole AI complex.
